FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Denver, CO – Kroenke Sports & Entertainment and partner UCHealth today unveil the brand new Mamava lactation suite on the 100 level concourse at Pepsi Center. The arena is the first venue in Colorado to roll out such an initiative, installing the UCHealth Nursing Suite outside of sections 130-132 to support nursing patrons and employees. Pepsi Center is the 13th arena nationwide and the first National Hockey League (NHL) venue to install a Mamava suite.
As the busiest venue in Colorado, Pepsi Center hosts more than 200 sporting, family and concert events annually and is home to the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Mammoth. “Pepsi Center strives to create a family-friendly environment and provide a positive experience for both our fans and employees” said Pepsi Center SVP Venue Operations Dave Jolette. “With the new Mamava lactation suite, we’re excited to support nursing mothers at all of our events by offering a clean and comfortable space to pump or nurse if they so choose.”
“Breastfeeding has long-term health benefits for both babies and their mothers, and UCHealth provides support, education and encouragement to families throughout the breastfeeding journey. This starts prenatally and continues as their babies grow,” said Jessica Anderson, a midwife at UCHealth’s University of Colorado Hospital and Director of CU Center for Midwifery. “Our services cross all areas of the pregnancy experience including prenatal education classes, one-on-one lactation visits and support groups, and the UCHealth Nursing Suite allows nursing moms to enjoy activities outside the home and still achieve their breastfeeding goals in a comfortable setting.”
Mamava, a company based in Burlington, Vt., designs solutions for nursing moms on the go. The lactation suite is a self-contained, mobile pod, with comfortable benches, a fold-down table, an electrical outlet for plugging in a breast pump, and a door that can be locked for privacy. The 4-foot by 8-foot pod is intended for individual use, but can fit more than one person, as well as mothers with diaper bags, babies, and other children in tow.
“Pepsi Center has become a role model for entertainment venues throughout the country with its new Mamava suite,” said Sascha Mayer, Mamava CEO. “The initiative demonstrates the commitment by both Kroenke Sports & Entertainment and UCHealth to support nursing guests and employees, ensuring that moms have a dignified space to pump.”
UCHealth’s Poudre Valley Hospital and Medical Center of the Rockies have both been designated Baby-Friendly Hospitals, meaning they have created the best possible environment for mothers to successfully breastfeed their babies. The UCHealth Nursing Suite is the first of several women’s health initiatives the health system is embarking upon thanks to its partnership with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, and makes Pepsi Center one of the most breastfeeding-friendly venues in Colorado.
